I started a blog, musical life, on November 21st, 2018. It’s a blog about “trash”, meaning that I’ll blog about anything and everything regarding music whether good or garbage.
Two weeks in,the blog was gaining positive traction between 10-22k views per post, over 1,000 likes/favorites/shares on social media such as Instagram and Facebook, and an average of 720 page views per day thus far. It’s brilliant to see surprising results without really focusing on the results themselves. I just enjoy writing the blog.
The first version of the site’s layout is very simple and clean. It’s a responsive layout with a sticky head. The color scheme is blue, teal, and purple; it’s a mellow, yet bubbly aesthetic, similar to the content itself. The masonry post style is the main feature of the homepage. The header is a simple carousel slider with the first three latest posts. The [music] PLAY button on the right hand side next to the social media button was created from HTML with jQuery capabilities.
The second version maintains the simplicity and color palette of the previous layout. This post is much more organized and easier to use. There are fixes from issues in version, as well as upgrades, such as an HTML player in the lower right that shows the playlist, allows you to rewind and skip, and continuously plays as you switch pages within the website. This version allows room for advertisement banners.
I have also explored my videography skills, developing a short Christmas animation and weekly music updates; this is done with After Effects.
This blog started as a fun thing to pass time and give me something to work on. Though still a work in progress, there continues to be an upward progression as I continue to add more content and gain a wider audience.
