Choirs @ UC Irvine
June 2013 to June 2015
Web, Design, Video
I acted as the Public Relations Chair for the Choirs @ UC Irvine, a student-run organization at the University of California, Irvine. This involved creating and maintaining the organization’s website as well as digitally and traditionally marketing the organization while advertising local and international events and performances.
Though the organization was originally under the University as “Choral Program at the University of California, Irvine”, the program eventually became a student organization. As a result, we changed the name to “Choirs at UC Irvine”. It was important that we distinguished the student organization from the school, so the visual brand was a priority. I went with a simple look that demonstrated both a professional and youthful brand. I went with the official UC Irvine colors: blue and white with yellow as an accent. I also helped create the anteater mascot to represent the organization.
I utilized both posters and videos to advertise the organization and its events and performances.
The responsive website maintained the simplicity seen in the logo. The yellow acts as accents to the main blue and white colors, including hover links and buttons. The website shifts away from the University-style visuals to a more student-friendly and casual, yet professional, style. The website included a responsive gallery.
The website is no longer active.
To further establish a youthful and fun, yet legitimate brand, I created a mascot (UCI’s official mascot is an anteater) unique to our choral organization. I made the original design as a concept, then gave it to artist Joe Mastroianni to draw a refined version. I used Illustrator to turn both drawings into colored vectors. I included the UC Irvine emblem on the music folder while utilizing the yellow accent from the organization’s color palette.
I also created all posters and advertisements for the events and performances of Choirs at UCI. It was important that the overall aesthetic attracted a general student audience without setting biased expectations.
Alongside poster designs, I also explored Snapchat geo-filters, creating one for a French-themed concert in 2015. I utilized the same theme as I did with the poster.
This opener was meant for one of the recruitment events held by the organization in 2014. Using Final Cut Pro, I wanted to capture a fun and relaxed tone while representing the legitimacy of the organization.
